My Most Special Girls

Chimes from the piano in our living room boom through the perfectly acoustic, yet cold and stark wood floors and paneling. My little sister who is now halfway to becoming a woman plays Canon in D and I fight back tears, for it sounds so beautiful I cannot believe that my little thing is all grown up now. Lena runs up and points something out on her Kindle. She not only is reading real novels and books, but she's able to understand them, have conversations about the stories, locate portions to recall and all that jazz. Lucy is talking about never wearing a bra and wearing moon boots. I'm still convinced she will one day join a feminist convent and probably fulfill her desire to never wear a bra. Haha. They make me laugh. They're growing up so quickly, I don't know what to think. We listened to Nicki Minaj together and called my dad out for unknowingly using one of the gestures for "fuck you" at us all the time! I'm not sure how to feel about this new evolved relationship that we are growing into, and it is definitely shocking and surreal, but here's to hoping that as they become real human beings and eventually adults, we can have a bond independent of whether or not I am on speaking terms with our parents.

I love these girls with all my heart. I wish they knew how much.
